  • History: Carnelian has been used as beads and adornments since the 5th millennium BC. Primitive bow drills were used to drill holes in the gemstones to create the beads. Carnelian was widely used during Roman times to make seals for enclosing important documents as hot wax does not stick to carnelian.
  • Metaphysical Properties: Carnelian is believed to be astabilising stone by restoring vitality while stimulating creativity. Said to encourage positive life choices and success.
  • History: The name hematite is derived from the Greek word for blood αἷμα haima, due to the red coloration found in some varieties of hematite. The color of hematite lends itself to use as a pigment. The English name of the stone is derived from Middle French hématite pierre, which was imported from Latin lapis haematites around the 15th century, which originated from Ancient Greek αἱματίτης λίθος (haimatitēs lithos, "blood-red stone")
